Tom obtained his integrated Master’s degree with First Class honours from the University of York in 2023. In his fourth year, he undertook a placement at biopharmaceutical company UCB, where he worked in the Physical Chemistry team to analyse the physico-chemical properties of small molecule compounds. His 4th year project was to design and implement high-throughput assays to detect intramolecular hydrogen bonds (IMHBs), and to then quantitatively investigate the dependence of key PhysChem properties on IMHBs.

Tom is now in his first year of his PhD, synthesising and optimising molecular chaperones for p53-Y220C. His project is in collaboration with the Verma group at the A*STAR Bioinformatics Institute in Singapore, and he will spend years 2 and 3 of his PhD there undertaking computational studies of p53.
