Ruxandra graduated from Keele University in 2019 where she achieved an upper division second class honours degree for her Integrated Master’s. Her 3rd year project focused on synthesising sulphur-containing tetrahydropyrans (THPs), whilst her 4th year project focused on using CO2 gas in flow reactors for organic chemistry reactions, both under the supervision of Dr Matthew O’Brien. During her degree she also worked part-time at Intertek, Rolls-Royce as a Laboratory Technician in the analytical chemistry laboratory.
Ruxandra's PhD investigates the reactivity of molecular warheads for targeted covalent inhibition. This involves the synthesis of the 2-SPs, coupling with current inhibitors and assessing their reactivity in vitro and in vivo in collaboration with Professor Graham Packham.
